There is no doubt that aggresiveness in poker is an essential quality; however, the one quality more than any other needed to play winning poker is patience.

The patience to sit through any number of hands waiting for just the right cards to play in the right position.

The patience to only play those cards that insure positive expectations in the long run.

So if you want to be a winning pro, practice patience, especially when the cards are not falling your way.

There are times where your concentration is not where it should be and if you can't walk away from the game, as in a tournament, you tend to go on auto pilot ot cruise control or whatever you call it. In a way it is almost like driving, you have been doing it so long it is almost automatic.

While we don't recommend playing in this state, if it becomes necessary, try to at least revert to chosing only the best starting hands, this may keep you from getting into too much trouble as at least you have a positive expectation on most of your starting hands.

Many people outside the poker community think that most poker pros somehow start playing poker and next thing they are automatically elevated to playing with Gus Hansen and Doyle Brunson at the final table on TV at the WPT or WSOP.
